Beautiful
I got the book in the mail today. I don't think I will be able to put it down for one second anytime before next Friday. It is simply the best photographic account of 18th century clothing detail that I have ever seen. I LOVE IT!!!

Good photos!
A good book for those interested in this era...someday, though, there will be a perfect one with such photos and then drawings and pattern from the costume, such as the perfect Janet Arnold books! I do like this book a lot and it has given me good help in my work.

Superb! Magnificent!
WHAT a wonderful book. Never has a museum published a more mouth-watering and so informative reference book. Forget the idea that all museum publications are dry and arid - even if you don't really like costume or fashion you MUST look at this book. The photography is of the very highest quality. If a picture is worth at least a thousand words, then there are millions of words in this book - millions of words that have never been coined, but which describe the small minutae - the rich colouring - the magnificent designs and craftmanship - the hitherto unsuspected marvel of a seam or a collar - the small pattern that you would never have noticed in a figured silk. Every library and art gallery and museum must have a copy of this book. Even artists ought to buy a copy, because it is invaluable as a source for design and ideas. I highly recommend this book. You can almost feel the satins and stroke the embroideries, feeling their texture. Dress is definitely an art form. Just ask this book with a mere glance, and you will get your answer - a resounding YES. The reviews below say this so much better than I could.

For Every Cat an Angel

Forever An Angel
I bought this book after losing my best friend of 15 years, Munchkin.
After reading this book, it helped me feel that my Munchkin is still with me in spirit and that someday I will meet up with her again. During these grief-filled days, something so simplistic brought me So much comfort. I read it over and over again. I recommend this book to anyone who has lost a dear feline friend, it will comfort you and held solidify your belief that the kitty you lost is really not gone, for she is forever in your heart and truly your forever friend.

A wonderful book for those who have lost a friend.
After losing my 1 year old cat to FIP, I was having a very difficult time dealing with my grief. My veterinarian gave me this book, and although reading it brought even more tears, it's eloquence in describing the eternal bond between a person and their "forever cat" really does aid in the healing process. It's a simple story, one that is familiar to every cat owner, yet you'll find yourself reading it over and over, and each time you close it you'll feel a little bit better than you did before. Highly recommended for those grieving a feline friend.

A GREAT BOOK AFTER LOSING A KITTY!
Our kitten who was 10 months old recently died of an untreatable disease. I have two children (ages 6 and 10) so I was looking for a book to help them. Well this book also helped me. WOW! This book describes how every kitty has a guardian angel and the guardian angel helps it find it's "forever person". But, the day comes when kitty is at the end of their earthly life and then it becomes a "forever cat" and rejoins it's angel. The part I liked most was how the book describes how your "forever cat" wants you to be happy even if it means bringing a new kitty into your life. And the "forever cat" will be happy because you still have so much love to share. This helped because my children were afraid to get another kitty because it might make our "angel kitty" mad. It goes on to describe how the angel takes care of it until the day comes when the "forever person" and "forever cat" meet again across the angel bridge. I know the review says for 6-8 year olds but I think every adult pet owner will find comfort in this book. Blessings be with you!!

Garfield No.2
I remember the first time I read this book 10 and 1/2 years ago. It is true 'classic' Garfield at his best. This is a must for any hardcore Garfield fan. New fans of Garfield will probably like this book, even though Garfield looks a lot of different as compared to his 'modern' look. I guess that goes to show how much Garfield has evolved in his 21 years, without losing his witty and sarcastic humor. If you do not have this book, then what are waiting for, buy it now! :)

This is why Garfield was so successful
This is just the second collection of Garfield comics, back when Davis was witty instead of just observant. Davis captures cat characteristics perfectly in these strips, and Garfield still represents a mixture of cat motivations in addition to his human thoughts. In the modern Garfield comics, Davis has forgotten that Garfield is a -cat-. It is mostly his cat foibles that make Garfield funny, and this collection is hilarious.

For those of you who have only read the strip in the last few years, I highly recommend reading this old collection, with wit reminiscient of Bloom County.

The best Garfield book of the early 1980's
I'll never forget the first time that I read this book back in the 7th grade when my younger brother checked out at the library and this book is Garfield's best book yet cause the drawings were getting better and they were starting to come up with more ideas.
The funniest moments were when Garfield ate the whole cake when the candles were still lit on the cake, when Odie eats Garfield's burger and says ribbit, his bad case of Monday's, or when Garfield beets on Odie.

If you love Garfield books, then this book is highly recommended cause it is the funniest book of the early 1980's.

a garfield preview
Garfield:He opens his mouth.Odie:he takes the hamburger!Garfield says:What the? Odie says:RIBBIT. That was a comic from Garfield sits around the house.

GARFIELD RULES!
Everybody out there keep buying Garfield books! They can be worth a lot of money someday and can become collector's items! I'm always going to keep all of mine so when I have kids they can read them!

A Ghost Named Wanda (The Zack Files)

The Zach Files A Ghost Named Wanda
I liked this book because i thought it was funny. i also liked it because Zach the little boy acts just like me for example he explianed how he always had a messy room which really relates to me ,and his dad is always is worried well for me it's my mom who worries about me.

I think the worst part was when wanda the ghost met cecil the ghost and they got into a big argument. The only reason i dident like it was because it really dident go along with the moral of the story because Wanda liked to be messy and cecil was very neat and at the end they ended up living together in a haunted house.

I think that the most vivid parts to me were the the setting and the plot .The setting was easy to visualize and see .For an example when wanda messed up the appartment and put suran wrap under the tolite seat ,and the the food falling out of the refrigorator .The plot of the characters was easy to see also like Zach a en year old boy with dark brown hair and blue eyes was easy to see because i think the author Dan Grennburg did an excellent job explaning!!!

this book is a good book
I chose this book as my favorite book. This book it is funny. It funny because one time Zack was sleeping his room was clean but someone did it meessing. He clean it again. When he wet to brush his teeth it was meesing aging.

Scary Mess
I like this book because Zach is really funny and kind of scary and gives me the chills. I know how Zach feels because my sister messes up my room. I think you should read this book because it's a really great book. If you have a sister or brother that messes up your room you should read this book.

A Dying Art
Published in Paperback by Prime Crime (02 July, 2002)
Author: Nageeba Davis
Average review score:

Sure, the Plot's Not so Hot, but the Dialog Makes up for it
I can forgive a lot of flaws if I like the characters and I like Maggie. I like Samuel Villari, the detective (although I agree with Maggie's conflict of interest comments). I like his parents. The scene where Maggie meets Papa Villari and the Dragon Lady is my favorite in the whole book.

It's a pity that Elizabeth was killed instead of one of her obnoxious grandchildren because I would have liked to have seen more of her. She was a grand lady.

Why did Elizabeth want to see Lindsay Burns? How does the obnoxious cop whom Maggie calls "Vacuum Nose" fit into the picture? How is Maggie going to find Elizabeth's killer while Will and Cassie are pestering her about the money and Villari (in time-honored professional male detective/cop dealing with female amateur fashion) is telling her to butt out before she gets herself killed?

Don't expect a lot in the way of suspense. I bought this for the promised laughs and on that score, the book delivers, for which I thank the author.

'F' IS FOR FANTASTIC
Loved this witty and humorous mystery. Maggie Keane is believable, down to earth and so real. This mouthy starving artist isn't sexy or well dressed and doesn't expect attention. But she sure gets more than her share in this crisply written and energetic tale of a very lovable, brave snoop. The trouble that grabs her from the beginning and winds around her until the end will keep you flipping pages as fast as you can. This novel is charming and lots of fun. I can't wait for Maggie's next adventure!

Humorous amateur sleuth tale
No one could ever have as lousy a day as art teacher Maggie Keane is having unless they just dropped dead or were run over by a semi. She burned her toast twice, tripped over a lamp stubbing her toe and breaking half the nail, and her toilet is backed up nothing seems to be wrong with the indoor pipes. The capable plumber checks the septic tank only to find someone having a worse day than Maggie as her next door neighbor Elizabeth Boyer lies dead there.

The police grill Maggie whose snappy retorts only anger the law enforcement officials. That changes when the brass assigns homicide detective Villari to head the investigation forcing Maggie to cooperate a little more. To her shock, Maggie learns that Elizabeth named her the fiduciary of her ten million-dollar estate. This makes the deceased's adult grandchildren angry since they will have to ask Maggie for money from the estate. Other events added to what is already known makes Maggie a prime, viable suspect who conducts her own inquiries to prove her innocence.

This brilliant debut mystery contains a dark plot. The repartee between the heroine and the rest of the cast is humorous while allowing the audience to further focus on Maggie's character. Readers will welcome Nageeba Davis to the real world where the road rules are that she must return with a second tale starring the magnificently mouthy Maggie.

I read GARFIELD AND THE MYSTERIOUS MUMMY

I thought it was a good book because it was cool. And I like the dog Odie. First Garfield family got lost there dad went home. And a mummy came out . I would recommend this book to 3rd graders because I like it you will to.

Garfield and the mysterious mummy is a reallly good book.My rating of this book is a 5. I liked it because it's a good mystery book and its funny! The book is about Garfield and Odie when they accidentally get left in the meuseum one night. Then strange things start to happen. So Garfield and Odie try to get through the night while being chased by the mummy or a thief trying to steal priceless artifacts.
I like the book but I wouldn't recommend it for preschoolers. It would be a good book for 3rd 4th or 5th graders.

A great series for your young Garfield fan
These are great chapter books for your early reader Garfield fan. My son loves them, I just wish there were more in the series. Unfortunately there are only four books in the series, so once they have read these four that's all there is.

Gives a few chuckles.
"Garfield Says a Mouthful, No 21" wasn't the funniest Garfield book I've read, but it's still entertaining. I nice addition to a collection and a must for Garfield fans. I recommend.

One of Garfield's best from the 1990's
Unfortunatly, this was actually when Garfield books were starting to fall a bit flat on ideas and the 1990's books weren't as good compared to the mid to late 1980's books but this book is still very funny, but overall if you're a Garfield fan, this book is highly recommended.

GARFIELD RULES!
Everybody out there keep buying Garfield books! They can be worth a lot of money someday and can become collector's items! I'm always going to keep all of mine so when I have kids they can read them!

GIMP Visual Quickstart Guide
Published in Paperback by Peachpit Press (15 May, 2000)
Author: Phyllis Davis
Average review score:

Good but already outdated
I agree with previous reviewers that this book provides easy-to-follow instructions for learning GIMP. I used it recently to help me devise lesson plans for a 5-week class for children ranging from 8-15 years old! Having it with me to consult during class boosted my confidence, since I had never used GIMP before teaching the class! My only additional comment is that I quickly discovered that GIMP, which is continuously being revised, has new and different features which are not covered in this book. Fortunately, the online manual fills these gaps. Still, I think this book was a good purchase, and I do recommend it to GIMP newbies.

The best beginning GIMP book I've seen.
I'm not a graphic artist, and I don't have time or the desire to read a mammoth tome on image manipulation. What I want is a book that will teach me the basics of GIMP in as little time as possible. This is that book. With this book I was able to get up to speed with most of the basic functions in just a couple of days. This is the best GIMP book I have seen for beginners. My only complaint is that most of the illustrations are in black & white, and the sections on color manipulation, etc. would probably be a little easier to follow with color illustrations. I plan to read the author's book on CorelDRAW in the near future

Excellent and complete introduction.
At the time of this writing, this is easily the best introduction to the GIMP. It covers about 90% of the material in the GIMP for Linux Bible, but the explanations are more concise. I would recommend the other book only if you need coverage of scripting, which this Quickstart doesn't really have.
